We are very proud to inform that we could supply battery systems for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at the CERN in Geneva.
This delivery is part of a replacement project for a 48 V system in the power distribution network for the LHC machine. The 48 V dc system is designed to protect the power supply to critical loads, such as safety lighting, switchboards auxiliaries, supervision systems and emergency power off systems.
Each installation is made of two sub-systems each one composed of a dedicated battery charger, a 48 V nickel-cadmium battery unit and a distribution bus-bar set. The battery units are from our partner Saft and are housed in dedicated metal cabinets. The batteries itself are robust and reliable Saft Nife® Ni-Cd pocket plate batteries that work in a wide range of temperatures, resist electrical abuse, shock and vibrations and need only very basic maintenance. This ensures a low total cost of ownership (TCO) over a life cycle that can last 20 years or more.
